Chairman Amit Raizada sees community philanthropy as an important instrument of social change during and after the COVID-19 era.
MIAMI—Amit Raizada, chairman of the Amit Raizada Foundation, has authored a three-part series on community philanthropy, in which he writes that a locally-oriented approach to philanthropy is uniquely situated to redress social challenges during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Raizada’s series comes as increased COVID-19 caseloads continue to create challenges in municipalities across the country.
“Community-based philanthropic organizations are deeply rooted in the communities they serve,” said Raizada. “Their unparalleled local knowledge renders them effective agents in working to address the problems beleaguering Americans during this pandemic. As cities, counties, and states devise COVID-19 recovery plans, community-based philanthropy can help drive just, equitable solutions.”
Raizada’s series explores the different manifestations of community philanthropy during the pandemic. From city-wide organizations in Chicago to nonprofits in Washington state that coordinate corporate and community philanthropy, Raizada dives into the ways these novel approaches are helping to solve the pandemic’s unprecedented challenges.
“At the Amit Raizada Foundation, we seek to catalyze lasting social change within three target areas: health care, education, and tolerance,” Raizada said. “By working to promote and advance these ambitions within local institutions—from schools to parks to civil society—community philanthropic organizations are valuable partners in our mission to build a better post-pandemic world.”
